Drivin' On
03:46
|

I've been searching for an answer, for why I don't feel too alive.
Seems like for every step I take, I fall farther behind.
Don't know which road I'd take but as long as the sun shines
I'll keep drivin' on, through dark roads and forests, bridges and mountain tops.
I'll keep drivin' on, through small towns and cities while the night is young.
Don't think that i've ever been so happy for myself.
And now im scared to death of going back to a familiar hell.
I miss the taste of the ocean in my lungs, the colours of the sky above,
the smell of freedom and sweet clarity is forever haunting me
& I can't wait to drive away, pound some miles on the pavement before the break of day.
Oh I'll keep drivin' on, through dark roads and forests, bridges and mountain tops.

Graveyard Blues

Down that old stone road on the outskirts of town, is where my cedar shack can be found.
I got an iron woodstove and a vicious bloodhound, he howls when the trains go by; it's such a haunting sound.
When it comes to the end, ya know we're all the same. All the criminals and lawyers, doctors and fiends.
Just wish their ghosts would stop talking to me.
I'm goin back to the graveyard again I don't expect any thank-you's from my patrons oh no, no, no.
That's right I'm a graveyard man, it's a thankless job but I love it,
oh yeah I do.
Say, deadman, could you go for a brew?
Cause I've been savin' one for you.
When I'm gone, I don't need no funeral.
'Cause I'm leaving you a song instead.
With a slow strumming guitar and a harmonica screaming:
I'm gonna wake the dead

Halifax

Salt in the air is tearin' up my throat, I pulled into Halifax an hour ago.
It's been many moons since i've seen such beauty,
to think it exists in my own country.
Flowers in the garden you can go there for free, Just ask Caretaker Mark
for the spot that he showed me.
You can see the pond and hear it's whispering soul, there I wrote a song for my girl back home.
I was thinkin' of her while Drivin' along, the long and dusty road down to Halifax.
Down by the harbour there's plenty to see, lots of fancy shops and people living in harmony.
Then there's the travellin' folk just like me,
some stick around but a lot of us leave.
Ain't got nothin' to do with the souls that we've found, it's the sound of the road callin us Westbound.
Salt in the air, it's leaving my throat, pulled out of halifax three hours ago.
Is it too late now to turn my van around? Cause I'm not done with this gorgeous town.

Westbound Train
02:40
|
|||
Every morning I wake up, hating what I'm gonna do.
It ain't no secret I'm livin' a lie I just don't know what I should do.
On the inside I'm dying, on the outside I'm crying.
But these tears don't fall for a woman I know these tears are crying for
this damned world.
Tired of feeling like I ain't get no rest,
Tired of havin' to try my best to pretend- I'm feelin' alright.
I'm spending my time, wasting my dimes in a hopeless port
of shipwrecked boats, a graveyard of them wanderin' souls
and the devil himself wouldn't call this home.
I'm hitching a ride on that Westbound Train and
I'm taking it all the way to hell.
I don't care if I die young I just want to live my life right now.
My only love is this guitar and these songs I sing are like my home
Whether near or far, when you hear these words; I'm givin' it my heart and soul.
I'm hitching a ride on that Westbound Train and
I'm taking it all the way to hell.
I don't care if I die young I just want to live my life right now
